6TH GRADE BAND audition for Advanced Band
All 6th graders have the opportunity to audition for
the Advanced 6th Grade Band, which will begin
meeting 7th period on the 1st day of the 2nd 9
weeks. The items below need to be passed off,
in any order, for either Dr. Poor or Mr. Tyndall
ANYTIME before homeroom or during class. These
requirements must be completed by Friday, October
2nd, 2009 with 90% accuracy or better in order
to be placed in the Advanced Band.
REQUIREMENT #1) Concert B-Flat scale
AND Concert A-flat scales (with arpeggios)
REQUIREMENT #2) Chromatic scale - low
concert B-Flat to high concert B-flat
(percussionists will be asked to play on snare the
first 4 measure of lip slurs 1-4)
NOTE: Either Requirement #1 or #2 must be
MEMORIZED (you may use music for the other one).
REQUIREMENT #3) THREE ETUDES from
Essential Elements 2000 (must play all three)
1) #106 (page 21)
2) #114 (page 22)
3) #134 (page 26) |

Percussionists must play any TWO (2) of
the above 3 exercises on mallets. |
REQUIREMENT #4) Choose ONE (1)
of the following from Winning Rhythms
1) Lines A - C from chart #9
2) Lines A - C from chart #14
3) Lines A - C from chart #18 |
Again, each item listed MUST be passed off with 90%
accuracy or better to become a member of the RSMS
Advanced 6th Grade band.
When: GOING ON NOW!!
Come to the band room before school or ask to
pass off during band class. You may play for
Dr. Poor or Mr. Tyndall. All items must be
completed no later than Friday, October 2nd.

CONCERT and
SYMPHONIC BANDS (7th and 8th Graders) CHAIR
TESTS
Both Concert and Symphonic Band chair tests are
going on NOW. You have a 3-part chair test.
These grades will be averaged for the chair order.
