
Dr. Emery Warnock
is the band director at Rising Starr Middle School.
Dr. Warnock
comes from Richmond Hill, GA where he was band director at
Richmond Hill Middle School for 10 years.
He is a
graduate of Berry College, The Florida State University
(M.S.), VanderCook College of Music(M.M.Ed.) and The
University of Utah (Ph.D.) where he was a teaching assistant
for 3 years and a
University
Research Fellow in music education for a year. Dr. Warnock
was 2007 Teacher of the Year at Richmond Hill Middle
School.
During Dr.
Warnock’s tenure at Richmond Hill Middle School, the
Symphonic Band performed at the 2011 GMEA In-Service
Conference, being the first band ever from GMEA District 1
to perform at the event. In 2007, the RHMS Symphonic Band
performed an all-commissioned works performance at the 30th
annual Georgia Middle School Association Conference. Also,
that year, the band performed at the Southern Star Music
Festival in Atlanta, earning superior ratings and receiving
the highest award in their division. Each year since 2008,
the band has received superior ratings for performances in
Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Dixie Classic Festivals, twice
performing in the National Adjudicators Invitational. In
2009 and in 2010, the band received State Level Winner
Awards from the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors
Project with three students receiving Most Outstanding
Woodwind Soloists on their respective instruments (in 2009).
The RHMS Band was recently recognized as a recipient of the
2011 GMEA Exemplary Performance Award.
Dr. Warnock
is an arranger of young concert band literature. He has
recently published concert band music with
De Haske
Publications.
His most recent composition is on

He is also an arranger of brass quintet music with
PEL
Music Publications.
Dr.
Warnock is an active researcher in music education with over
20 conference presentations and publications in

Perspectives in Music Education,
the

Journal of Music Education,
Georgia Music News
and
The
Instrumentalist.
Internationally, Dr. Warnock has been involved in summer
in-service teaching in Asia, The Middle East, and Europe. In
Scotland, he collaborates with Hugh Johnstone, M.B.E.,
organizer of the Dalmellington Junior Brass Band, in an
exchange of brass pedagogical material and ideas for
teachers of young brass students. Dr. Warnock was a 2006
Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar observing bands and
music education in Japanese schools.
Dr. Warnock
is a member of Phi Beta Mu, the international honorary
organization for school instrumental music conductors. He
is a recipient of the National Band Association Citation of
Excellence.
